With
over one hundred members in our chapter, we are an active organization
represented by women of all ages and experiences. Come and help us
build our DAR chapter for the twenty first century.
Our
chapter is dedicated to promoting
Historic Preservation, Education, and Patriotism.
Preserving
the past for the future.
On
October 11, 1890, eighteen women met to officially organize the National
Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR
or DAR). Nine years later, the
Col. Timothy Bigelow Chapter charter was accepted on August 9,
1899, by the NSDAR.
We
are a non-profit, non-political society of women who have proven
lineal descent from an ancestor (man or woman) who
served this country during the Revolutionary War. Many types of
service or aid are accepted. If you think you may have a patriot
ancestor we would be happy to assist you in ascertaining your eligibility
for membership.
Chapter
meetings are held monthly from September through June at The
Oaks. Members, prospective members, and invited guests are
welcome to attend. Please contact us
if you would like to attend a meeting as our guest.
Our chapter is named in honor of Col. Timothy
Bigelow, an
American Patriot who served in the Revolutionary War. The Col. Timothy
Bigelow Monument on Worcester Common honors this
distinguished hero to this day.
“Our
emblem is a golden wheel
Banded with deepest blue
Each shining spoke tipped with a star,
The distaff showing through;
The only jewel in the world
That money cannot buy,
Without such proof of ancestry
As no one can deny.”
